About VAPI Founder Steven Griswold
Steven Griswold was born and raised in Rancho Palos Verdes, a southern suburb of Los Angeles. He attended college at U.S.C. and graduated in 2003 with a psychology degree. He was thereafter accepted to Le Cordon Bleu. However, his culinary dreams were sidelined when he found himself roped into the family insurance business.
Fast forward to 2016: Steven couldn’t be more pleased with his professional path. From pretty much the beginning, he’s been confident in his decision, but this year signifies a remarkable milestone for Steven: He officially launched Vegan & Animal Professionals Insurance Agency, an idea that had been gestating since he first discovered veganism.
Flashback to November 2011: It all began with a beagle, one of Beagle Freedom Project’s “Spanish 40.” Fostering Uno, as he dubbed the former laboratory subject, caused Steven to confront the things we do to man’s best friend in the name of consumer products testing. It got him thinking about farmed animals, and animals used in entertainment and for fashion. Steven went vegan in January 2012, a little over a month after meeting that very special dog.
While going 100% plant-based yielded clearer skin and a slimmer waistline, Steven was most moved by the vegan community in L.A., of which he is an active part. The friends he’s met share his vision and are equally dedicated to the cause, serving to inspire him more and more each day.
Wishing to put his business where his beliefs are, VAPI proved the next logical step. Steven hopes fellow vegans will discern both the value of his insurance expertise as well as his earnest commitment to animal advocacy and growing the vegan economy.
When not working alongside clients to help them secure the best coverage, Steven can be found spending time with his wife Khryste and another BFP rescue, a pitbull named Gidget — and the reigning vegan queen of the couple’s Lomita home.
